I just knew that there had to be some connection to make a sale. Everybody is laughing and having a good time. I said, “Do you have the phone number of a good roof repairman?” They’d say, “What?” I’d say, “Do you have the phone number of a good roof repairman? It’s because when you taste one of these, you’re going to go through the roof.” They’d answer the door and see a little kid down there. I put the candy bars behind my back and knocked on the door. After 3 or 4 doors, I realized that I need some presentation, gimmick, or something to get people to buy. I tell my dad, “I got to pay for these.” He said, “You need to go figure it out.” My brothers and sisters ate half of them when I wasn’t looking and didn’t pay. They told me to go home and sell my relatives some candy bars and bring the ones that I didn’t sell back. I remember one time the school gave me a box of candy bars from World’s Finest Chocolate. He would tell me to figure it out myself, even when I was little. I didn’t have the dad that put his arm around me and taught me a bunch of lessons. They made sure we had clothes and food and we were safe. They didn’t do much except for made sure we didn’t die. My parents were the kind of parents that thought children should be seen and not heard.
